Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior QA Engineer with specialized expertise in Power BI testing, Microsoft Fabric environments, and end-to-end data validation. In this role, you will define and execute a comprehensive testing strategy that validates data integrity from the Lakehouse and semantic model layers down to the front-end user interface. Combining rigorous manual validation, deep backend SQL checks, and DAX verification, you will bridge UI testing with source-to-visual reconciliation to ensure high performance and reliability across reporting ecosystems.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field.
Professional Experience
5+ years of experience in Quality Assurance with a heavy focus on data-centric applications, Power BI reporting environments, and complex data validation
Hands-on experience performing Power BI report testing at the Lakehouse and semantic model layers (including data relationships and DAX expression validation)
Demonstrated expertise in source-to-visual data reconciliation using advanced SQL queries rather than relying solely on UI reviews
Solid foundation in QA fundamentals: writing structured test cases from user stories/requirements, defect lifecycle management, and conducting thorough root-cause investigations prior to escalating issues
Practical experience working in Microsoft Fabric or Azure ecosystems, handling data migrations, data pipeline verification, and environment parity comparisons
Key Responsibilities
Execute comprehensive QA strategies across data workflows, pipelines, and semantic models within Microsoft Fabric and Power BI environments
Perform Lakehouse and semantic model layer validation, verifying data relationships, measures, and DAX calculation accuracy
Conduct rigorous source-to-visual data reconciliation by writing complex SQL queries against backend data sources to confirm transformation accuracy
Lead front-end Power BI UI testing, validating report layouts, navigation, user permissions, and visual consistency
Derive testable requirements from user stories to create structured test cases with clear acceptance criteria
Document, track, and verify defects with precise reproduction steps, severity categorization, and supporting evidence across functional, regression, and UAT cycles
Compare legacy reporting systems against Microsoft Fabric environments to ensure functional parity and data alignment
Conduct root cause analysis for data anomalies and collaborate closely with Data Engineers and Developers to resolve quality bottlenecks
Required Technical Skills
Strong experience in several of the following areas:
Power BI & Semantic Testing: Deep hands-on experience with Power BI Service, Power BI UI testing, semantic model layers, data relationships, and DAX validation
Data Validation & SQL: Advanced SQL querying for backend data validation, source-to-visual reconciliation, and data pipeline verification
QA Fundamentals: Mastery of test case design, acceptance criteria definition, defect reporting, root-cause analysis, and distinguishing functional, regression, and UAT boundaries
Cloud & Data Environments: Practical experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure ecosystems, Lakehouse architectures, and advanced Excel for comparative analysis
Defect & Test Management: Experience utilizing Jira, Azure DevOps, or similar test management tools for defect tracking and test documentation
Nice to Have
Hands-on test automation experience using Playwright, Selenium, or similar UI automation frameworks
Knowledge of automated testing approaches for data integration pipelines and CI/CT practices
Familiarity with AI-assisted testing or coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) for data verification
Exposure to Azure security protocols, data governance frameworks, or large-scale data migrations to Microsoft Fabric
Soft Skills
Advanced English proficiency (written and verbal)
Strong analytical mindset with a habit of investigating data anomalies deeply before escalating
Excellent documentation skills for creating clear, reproducible, and repeatable test cases and bug reports
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work closely with Data Engineers, Developers, and Product Stakeholders
High attention to detail, organizational discipline, and technical ownership over data reliability
